What are the benefits of Yoga?

Regular practice of  yoga can increase muscle strength, endurance and flexibility, reduce stress levels
and encourage relaxation.  Yoga is completely accessible to total beginners.  The White Lotus in Cape Town is an intimate studio venue, that allows for personalised, individual attention, making it the ideal place to develop and grow in your yoga practice.

The Basics

Wear comfortable clothing and bring extra layers. The body gets warm when flowing from pose to pose
and it cools down during relaxation.  Bring a yoga mat, a towel, and plenty of water to keep hydrated.

HATHA YOGA is a foundational style of yoga and it is the source of most modern yoga styles. Its philosophical roots reach far back in history to the Yoga Sutras written by Patanjali, the first text written on the subject of Yoga 2500 years ago.

Contemporary Hatha Yoga classes are aimed at growing the student’s self-awareness through a combination of Asana Practice (mindful physical postures), Pranayama (conscious breathing techniques) and Deep Relaxation (Guided). The underlying structure of a Hatha Class Sequence aims to integrate all of these modalities (body, breath and mind). If the latter is done in an informed and mindful way it increases and directs the flow of life energy, which in turn increases the benefits derived from dedicated and regular practice.

Some of the possible benefits are: Stress reduction, enhanced physical and emotional well-being and a revitalisation of body, mind and spirit…. the possible beginnings of an inward journey of self-discovery and spiritual growth.

Vinyasa Yoga a dynamic, flowing form of yoga that synchronises the breath with a sequential pattern of Yoga poses. This ‘moving meditation’ helps practitioners to bring themselves fully into each moment and experience a unique integration of body and mind.

Vinyasa Yoga also generates warmth within the body, develops balance and muscle strength, endurance and flexibility.
